Well, this is the part of the NFL season, where things tend to get a little weird. Just after the draft concludes and official off-season practices have started, fans lose their minds. People have these wild expectations about their team (because all 32 of them are going to the Super Bowl in 2015) and every team is exploring a trade for one of the most elite players in the league, to fill a gap that still resides on their team. What we would like to do here, at Hashtag Sports, is to poll the fans, and get your feedback. What is the most insane thing that you have heard a fan suggest for their team to get better? Was there an article out there that you just started to shake your head before you even read it? Did your team suggest that they were going to trade their kicker and a first round pick in the 2016 Draft for Peyton Manning? AND GO!!!

We have broached many topics here at Hashtag Sports that have to deal with our take on various ideas and concepts. How fitting is it then, that we discuss Joe Willie Namath on his 72nd birthday? Broadway Joe, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985, is most known for two things: defeating the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III and his attempted makeout session with Suzy Kolber. One landed him in the Hall of Fame and the other in the Hall of Shame. By Paul Wanecski
The NFL has made it a habit this last decade to capitalize on the television market. So much so that they have structured the game to advertise and merchandise the NFL product more effectively than any sport in the history of television. Tremendous strides have made the NFL the most profitable organized sport in the United States. Sometimes they forget the simple stuff. By Paul Wanecski
Robert Kraft announced that the New England Patriots will be dropping the appeal of league punishment following #deflategate. The major concern for Bills fans will remain the appeal of Tom Brady, whose appeal is still outstanding. With Kraft dropping the appeal, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell may review Brady's appeal of a 4 game unpaid suspension more favorably than before, since the Patriots are dropping their request to have their punishment reduced. While this is purely speculative at this time, it is possible since Goodell will be handling Brady's appeal personally instead of assigning another member of the NFL to handle the case. While it would be unlikely that the entire suspension be erased, the possibility that it will be reduced is still floating as an option. Now, since the media circus that would have surrounded both a team and player appeal has been removed, the NFL could look at Brady's current discipline in a softer light. Either way, with the Patriots playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium in week 2, Bills fans will eagerly be awaiting a league decision in the pending appeal. By Paul Wanecski
Tom Brady has been suspended and rightfully so. Refusing to cooperate with an NFL investigation (also known as being a whiny-little-ninny) should now be a lesson to players; just be transparent when you are asked about something. Aside from the circus that has become his agent, Don Yee, stomping his feet and screaming to the masses that this suspension is unprecedented and without merit (and accusing the Colts of collusion, which is actually an interesting topic), let’s consider the information provided in Brady’s press conference following #DeflateGate coming to the surface. While Jay Glazer snapped up this scoop earlier tonight, if the rumors are true, Tim Tebow will have landed with the Philadelphia Eagles by the end of Monday. While many fans will be shocked that he was signed, others will wonder why he hasn't been on an active roster in two seasons. While we are not one to judge, we hope you find this interesting. It has long been the struggle of Rex Ryan to find a quarterback, which mirrors the recent struggles of the Buffalo Bills for nearly two decades. As we see constantly throughout the NFL, unless the starting quarterback is of well above average, the new regime beings in someone new. The Bills have not been shy about adding players to compete with roster incumbents EJ Manuel and Jeff Tuel. With that, it is hard to imagine that they won't look to add another quarterback in the 3rd day of the draft or in the undrafted free agent pool. By Paul Wanecski
Looking across the landscape of all available free agents - most of whom will have to sit and wait once the draft is completed to try and find a home – we still find rather notable names currently unemployed. While not all these players will fit every scheme across the NFL, we have built an All-Available team; a collection of players without a home. This is not in priority order, just simply listing who the top players at a given position. by Mario Granata
History. When examining the NFL and its rich history there are comparisons that are made all the time in regards to different eras. When people think about the 1983 Draft Class, the quarterbacks from that class are often at the forefront as the best class to produce signal callers in the NFL. However, taking a closer look at the numbers the class of 2004 holds some weight as a rival to 1983. by Mario Granata and Paul Wanecski
A lot of talk has been circling about the new rule proposals and by-laws that will be presented during the NFL off-season owners meetings. While many of them need a decoder ring to truly find out what they mean, Hashtag Sports would like to present their Top 5 proposed changes. Now, some of these you might agree with and some you might think are never going to come to fruition. Either way, this should be a great conversation starter for your friends at the bar or it could just be a good laugh. |
