While Jay Glazer snapped up this scoop earlier tonight, if the rumors are true, Tim Tebow will have landed with the Philadelphia Eagles by the end of Monday. While many fans will be shocked that he was signed, others will wonder why he hasn't been on an active roster in two seasons. While we are not one to judge, we hope you find this interesting.
His signing actually reunites Tebow with Mark Sanchez, who played together with the Jets prior to Tebow being released. Now both with the Eagles, and with Bradford still recovering from ACL surgery, Tebow effectively takes the 4th QB spot going into camp. With the offense that Chip Kelly is said to want to run, it isn't a shock that he targeted Tebow, who was such an effective college QB. The odds of him making the roster are slim, but, it does call into question the future of Matt Barkley (a future we called into question here at hashtag sports in our archive here). It would be hard to argue against the statement that if any system was catered to what Tebow did best in college, it would be Kelly's.
So I suppose the real question is what is exactly happening in Philadelphia? If the signing of Tim Tebow is meant as a smoke screen to hide interest in acquiring Marcus Mariota in this year's NFL draft, the only way it would be less obvious if Chip Kelly dressed up as Batman and smashed the smoke pellet on the ground himself. We wish the best for all Eagles fans, even though Tebow hails from the Florida Gators, the rest of the roster this year is looking duckie.
