When the Buffalo Bills selected FSU cornerback Ronald Darby with the 50th pick in this year's draft, it may have been the signal to the end of an era. For 2 years, Hashtag Sports has been talking about what a dominate slot corner Leodis McKelvin would be. Now he may get that opportunity if the team doesn't release or trade him first.

We have broached many topics here at Hashtag Sports that have to deal with our take on various ideas and concepts. How fitting is it then, that we discuss Joe Willie Namath on his 72nd birthday? Broadway Joe, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985, is most known for two things: defeating the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III and his attempted makeout session with Suzy Kolber. One landed him in the Hall of Fame and the other in the Hall of Shame. By Paul Wanecski
When the rosters at 90 players, it is not hard to guess who will be cut and who will remain. Honestly, without much thought, we could all get the roster down to around 60 players without much thought. With that being said, the time will be coming soon for some players who called the Buffalo Bills home in 2014 to say goodbye. Here we will take a look at which 2014 Buffalo Bills who are currently on the 90 man rosters might not make it to week one. While getting the “pink slip” may not be as entertaining as in the movie Major League (like when Pedro Cerrano comes to his locker armed with a snake to ward off any evil spirits that may have released him from the team), it is an essential part of today’s game. Many fans will take a look at the way EJ Manuel’s 2014 season ended and try to encapsulate the 4 games he started with his rookie season the year before. Even when you go back and look at highlights, film, and statistics, they don’t always tell a complete story. Case and point will be the “pick-six” interception that Manuel tossed in the Houston Texans game to J.J. Watt. While it is easy to pin this on Manuel, was this really his fault? By Paul Wanecski
The NFL has made it a habit this last decade to capitalize on the television market. So much so that they have structured the game to advertise and merchandise the NFL product more effectively than any sport in the history of television. Tremendous strides have made the NFL the most profitable organized sport in the United States. Sometimes they forget the simple stuff. Guest host Ryan Lasal, Contributor and Administrator for BillsFanatics will be discussing the offseason and if the Bills have built the "Bully" Rex promised.

Robert Kraft announced that the New England Patriots will be dropping the appeal of league punishment following #deflategate. The major concern for Bills fans will remain the appeal of Tom Brady, whose appeal is still outstanding. With Kraft dropping the appeal, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell may review Brady's appeal of a 4 game unpaid suspension more favorably than before, since the Patriots are dropping their request to have their punishment reduced. While this is purely speculative at this time, it is possible since Goodell will be handling Brady's appeal personally instead of assigning another member of the NFL to handle the case. While it would be unlikely that the entire suspension be erased, the possibility that it will be reduced is still floating as an option. Now, since the media circus that would have surrounded both a team and player appeal has been removed, the NFL could look at Brady's current discipline in a softer light. Either way, with the Patriots playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium in week 2, Bills fans will eagerly be awaiting a league decision in the pending appeal. By Paul Wanecski
Trading for running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy was both an exciting and confusing time for most fans of the Buffalo Bills. Not seen as a major position of need with incumbent starter Fred Jackson, the move was shocking because the team shipped off their leading tackler in 2013, Kiko Alonso, to the Philadelphia Eagles in the swap. The immediate reaction was that the Bills were going to take the NFL in a cloud of dust. To do that, they would have to improve the offensive line. So have they done enough to improve the line to justify the acquisition and contract extension for Shady? by Mario "Game" Granata
Sounds interesting enough to the average listener, doesn’t it? The Buffalo Bills are yet again in another coaching change, which has left a lot of the Buffalo faithful, scratching their heads over the 18th Head Coach, Rex Ryan. The 2014 Bills had a stellar defense that ranked in the Top 10 in many of the major statistical categories, while their offense was nothing short of a high school team. So why did the Bills go with such a defensive minded coach? By Paul Wanecski
Coming out of college, it is not mystery why EJ Manuel was the top target at the Quarterback position for the Buffalo Bills in the 2013 draft. The Bills had already traded down once to obtain the 16th selection they used to pick Manuel and they could have traded down again; they did field offers for the pick but ultimately decided that they didn’t want to drop any further. The next QB selected was Geno Smith (West Virginia) by the Jets, 23 spots later. After that it was Mike Glennon (N.C.State) in Tampa Bay, 34 picks after Smith and 57 picks after Manuel. It was not a heralded class of Quarterbacks. Why were these 3 the first selected in that draft and was Manuel just that much better of a prospect to have been taken so early? |
