With all the talk centered around who will be making a 'bid' to own the Bills, and put up a new stadium, there has been little focus on players who are going to be leading the charge in 2014. More importantly, the commander and chief, Doug Whaley, and his pick to direct the defense, Jim Schwartz. The Bills have made some bold off-season moves, and especially on the defensive side of the ball, how is Schwartz's philosophy going to change the Bills?

Just sitting down to write this article, my stomach starts to turn a little bit. The reason for that, is because it is going to highlight Johnny Manziel and Tim Tebow. You know, the two guys who were in the split screen room watching the National Championship Game between Florida State and Auburn? Two of the most hyped players (minus Manti Te'o) in the past 5 years. Those two. But, what you probably don't know is how much these guys are alike. Mario "Game" Granata
I have long been a proponent for the "purity" of the game, no matter if it was baseball, football, basketball, hockey, etc. but with the recent changes that have been made to all of those sports, in terms of banning substances, it seems that it's getting harder and harder to find players that are using illegal substances in professional sports. But, what can be done to police these players, since the current system is somewhat flawed? Mario "Game" Granata
Well, the name says it all, doesn't it? After eclipsing a milestone in my own personal life, I thought about how, with all the bumps and bruises that I have accumulated over my time playing sports, how some of these quarterbacks in the National Football League are able to get up, day after day, and perform. It really is amazing, how these "old guys" or "candidates" are able to do it, so I figured I would highlight their accomplishments, and have a little fun at the same time. If quarterbacks were in the White House, this is how it would look. Mario "Game" Granata
As highlighted on some previous articles, the Buffalo Bills and Doug Whaley are turning the corner and making moves for that are hopefully going to pull the franchise out of the basement of the NFL. They are drafting well, added some depth, and have defenders on this team that are going to be impact players in the league. Here are a few points of the recent moves by the Bills. Looking at the Bills roster, and especially the defense that the Bills are looking at going into the 2014 season with, you would be hard pressed to argue against the fact that they are trying to end the longest playoff drought currently in the NFL. The "Architect" Doug Whaley, who is heavily rooted on the defensive side of the ball, is bringing in the Blue Chip players that the Bills desperately need, many of which are 1st and 2nd round picks. Make what you will about the Bills aggressive nature in the NFL Draft, the fact remains that they knew who the wanted and did everything they could to get him. As the days post-draft unfold, more and more stories are surfacing about just how relentless the Buffalo Bills actually were. Mario "Game" Granata
Now, as many of you know, if you have followed a lot of the Hashtag Sports Articles, there is a lot of speculation that goes into many of the comments. Some of them end up coming to fruition, as noted in an article on May 5th of this year, saying that if the Bills somehow were able to get Sammy Watkins, the Buffalo Bills might show Stevie Johnson the door. Unpopular as that move might have been, fear of the unknown is even more evident for the fans of the Buffalo Bills. But some moves that have taken place, might just be just as alarming looking down the road for the Bills' offensive starters. Mario "Game" Granata
Residing in the 716 (Western, New York) as I do, there is a lot of talk about the Buffalo Bills off-season moves, more notably the failed re-signing of Jairus Byrd and the trade of Stevie Johnson. In Buffalo, the 2nd round pick, Byrd, was known as a playmaker, who amassed 22 interceptions during his career as a Bill. Stevie Johnson became a social media darling with the Bills Mafia, and was always good for a one-liner, and endeared himself to the blue-collar atmosphere of Buffalo, becoming a starter after being selected in the 7th round. So, why there may be some resentment in Buffalo, the moves that were made were for the best. Mario "Game" Granata
An idea that was echoed even before the 2014 NFL Draft took place, if the Buffalo Bills were to select Sammy Watkins with their first pick, would that mean the end of Stevie Johnson's career in Buffalo? That question was answered on Day 2 of the draft as Johnson was sent to San Francisco for a 4th round pick, and a move that left many of the Buffalo faithful questioning the move. Taking a look at the business end of the deal, it is apparent that the Bills are looking ahead. |
