Now, there were some shakeups when free agency hit as the Seattle Seahawks gave their first round selection to the New Orleans Saints, and more than likely the Saints will use the 31st pick on a quarterback. It allows New Orleans to have a 5th year option, which comes in handy on a quarterback with an aging Drew Brees at the helm.

Depending on how the first 10 picks play out, here are some possible areas of need for some other teams. Keep in the back of your head what the Eagles do with the 20th pick. They might try to swing Bradford to Cleveland and pick up the 19th pick and then bundle the 19th and 20th to Tennessee for the #2 overall pick to snag Mariota. It would come as no shock to the Hashtag Crew, as it should to any of you if Chip Kelly swings for the fence on that one.

As the NFL draft approaches, more and more people are discussing Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. It is almost a foregone conclusion that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be selecting FSU’s Jamies Winston with the first overall selection, so I suppose it is natural to look to where the next best quarterback will fall. Here we will go through a variety of situations and circumstances that could lead to the former duck landing in a new pond. Benardrick McKinney- Mississippi State
By: Paul “The Closer” Wanecski As the NFL draft inches closer and closer, the Buffalo Bills find themselves in a position that may be two decades in the making; they are not drafting a single position that doesn’t already have either an incumbent starter or someone who played the position last year. You have to give the Bills front office credit in building a roster that will not be dependent on whatever selections they make on draft day. With that, we all know the struggles of the offense and the overpowering nature of the defense that Rex Ryan and crew have taken on. While the defensive unit is an expensive one, this year may be the start of a youth movement, supplanting long time players such as Leodis McKelvin. The team may also look to handcuff pending player’s extensions such as Marcell Dareus, Nigel Bradham, or Cordy Glenn. With all that said, let’s take a look at the 2013 and 2014 leading tackler for Mississippi State, inside linebacker Benardrick McKinney. by Mario Granata
With the ever-changing NFL, there are always unique offenses that are designed to try and combat the complex defensive schemes. Defenses look to make teams one-dimensional and on the same token, offenses wish to do the same. As a wise man one said, “If the defense knows what you are doing, you better be good as what you do.” That philosophy might have worked about 15-20 years ago, but with the invention of the ‘wildcat’ and ‘pistol’, two examples that prove that if you give defensive coordinators an off-season of planning, they will wash out. Chip Kelly’s ego is such that he wants to have a long and ‘innovative’ career in the NFL. He took a player like Nick Foles, and in the first year of his high-octane offense, brought him to a 27-2 TD to Int ratio, but he was never “Chip’s Guy”. That man was still playing in college. So, Kelly has concocted a master plan to have the ultimate offense in the NFL and here is how he envisions it playing out. by Mario Granata
The Buffalo Bills have made some noise this off-season for two reasons: They had to, and they had to. The first “had to” was due to the fact that they had some trouble on the offensive line, and CJ Spiller’s return was in question. The second “had to” was the direct result of not having a first round draft pick. Although some Bills fans might enjoy the current receiving core that is on the team, it never hurts to look out there for some interesting prospects. Here are a list of receivers out there that the Bills might want to consider, or not consider: by Paul Wanecski and Mario Granata
As Chip Kelly loads up on former Oregon Duck players with whom he had previously coached the count as of 10:00pm EST on 3/9/15 stands that he has acquired 9 former players, the quest for 10 is undoubtedly going on behind the scenes. Mark Sanchez is no longer a free agent, and his best fit was to return to the Eagles where he was able to pick up the Chip Kelly offense and performed relatively well. He is not the starter, however. Nick Foles was lost to injury and even upon his return was unable to nudge past Sanchez on the depth chart. After that, former USC quarterback Matt Barkley is buried on the depth chart and has never really seen any action, except for his 4 interceptions, 1 fumble and 0 touchdown performance in 2013. by Paul Wanecski
Before we dredge into the only article of the “32 Teams In 32 Days” series that I wasn’t excited to write, allow me to state that it pains me immensely to show that New England has secured the 32nd selection in the NFL draft having won the Super Bowl. I will do my best to write as objective an article as possible. I make no promises. by Paul Wanecski
If you are looking for exciting offseason moves, you will not find that in Seattle this year. The team is nearing the cliff of securing all the long-term franchise pieces they have had at a bargain the last 4 years. Any way that you cut it, Seattle has been able to keep the machine going. by Mario Granata
What do you do when you have the top scoring offense in the NFL? You say you are not going to call plays anymore. HC Mike McCarthy is the last of a rare breed of individuals in the NFL today, and to better focus on the overall scope of the game, he is relieving himself of those duties. Relax, Mike, you have a 2x NFL MVP, and a guy who has averaged 35 TDs to 6 Ints the past 4 years. Take care of the rest of the roster, and especially this offseason. |
